World’s 10 Richest People (October 2024): Mark Zuckerberg surpassed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos on Friday to become the world’s second richest person, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index.
Zuckerberg, the US-based billionaire, is the CEO and co-founder of Meta (formerly known as Facebook), has a net worth is $206 billion, and is trailing only Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has a fortune of $256 billion.
In 20 years, Meta has grown to be the world’s most widely used social media platform, with over 3 billion monthly active users, and ranks as the world’s seventh-largest corporation, having a market capitalisation of $1.255 trillion.
It also owns and operates several prominent social media applications, including Instagram and WhatsApp, both of which it acquired and expanded under his leadership.

FT reports that Meta’s shares have surged by 23% following the company’s stronger-than-expected sales results for the second quarter of 2024, and significant advancements in its large language models that enhance AI chatbots have propelled Zuckerberg to become the second-richest billionaire globally, as of October 2024.
It’s also noteworthy to mention that Zuckerberg is estimated to reach trillionaire status by 2030, given he retains his recent annual growth rate of 35.8%, as per the report by Informa Connect.
