Stree 2 creates history, surpasses SRK’s Jawan to become highest-grossing Hindi film

Hindi horror-comedy Stree 2, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead along with Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurrana and Pankaj Tripathi, has scripted history. The Amar Kaushik-helmed film has become the highest grossing Hindi film, surpassing the collection of the Hindi version of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan.

Stree 2, which hit the theatres on August 15 along with two other Hindi films, has minted a total of Rs 586 crore. On Tuesday, September 17, the film collected Rs 2.65 crore. With that, the film overtook the Hindi collection of Atlee’s Jawan, with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, to become the highest-grossing Hindi film.

he film is now eyeing to enter the Rs 600 crore-club. It would be able to overtake the total collection of Jawan if it earns over Rs 640 crore.

The film has been enjoying a good run at the box office, mainly because of almost no competition. There have been no major releases in September so far. The film will compete with Siddhanth Chaturvedi and Malavika Mohanan-starrer Yudhra at the ticket windows. It will face some competition from Devara: Part 1, featuring Jr NTR and marking Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor’s Telugu debut, next week from September 27.
