The book has been titled – Diary of a Home Minister.Credit: Special Arrangement Nagpur: Veteran politician Anil Deshmukh’s book dwelling on multiple issues during his tenure as the state Home Minister—including planting of gelatine-sticks outside the house of Reliance Group Chairman Mukesh Ambani, murder of Thane-based businessman Mansukh Hiren, allegations of Mumbai Police chief Parambir Singh and his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate and Central Bureau of Investigation—is set.
Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has made grave allegations against Devendra Fadnavis, claiming that the Deputy Chief Minister offered to get corruption cases against him quashed if he filed false affidavit against some Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) leaders.
Deshmukh made the claims in his new book, ‘Diary of A Home Minister’, shedding light on the alleged conspiracy that resulted in his 14-month jail. The former Home Minister is facing a CBI case for alleged corruption and another case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for money laundering.
Deshmukh resigned as the state home minister in April 2021 and was arrested in November 2021. He was released on bail in December 2022.
In the book, the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader claimed that in the last week of April 2021, a person named Samit Kadam from Sangli approached him and claimed that Devendra Fadnavis wanted to help Deshmukh.
Deshmukh stated that when he checked the person’s social media profile, he found his pictures with Devendra Fadnavis. Kadam, Deshmukh said, was also associated with the Jan Surajya Shakti party, which supports the BJP.
Deshmukh writes in his book that Kadam told him that Fadnavis wanted to talk to him.
“I understood that Fadnavis didn’t want to take the risk of speaking to me directly from his or my phone,” writes Deshmukh.
Kadam then dialled a number from FaceTime or WhatsApp and made him speak to Fadnavis, writes Deshmukh.
“Fadnavis said bhau you don’t worry, we know that the cases against you are not strong, and we will help you,” writes Deshmukh, claiming what Fadnavis allegedly told him over call.
Deshmukh writes in his book that Samit, allegedly on behalf of Fadnavis, asked him to file an affidavit against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray in the Disha Salian death case. Samit asked him to file affidavits against other MVA leaders, including Uddhav Thackeray and Anil Parab as well, claims Deshmukh.
Deshmukh claims that to his surprise, Samit Kadam also asked him to file an affidavit against Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who broke away from the NCP faction and joined hands with the BJP to form a government in Maharashtra. Kadam also told Deshmukh to frame Ajit Pawar’s son Parth, who he said wanted to collect money from tobacco manufacturers, Deshmukh writes in his book.
“Samit told me that I have to file an affidavit regarding Aaditya Thackeray’s role in Disha Salians death and other points regarding Ajit dada, his son Parth, Uddhav Thackeray and Anil Parab. I got upset about why he took Ajit dada’s name, as they had formed the government with him,” writes Deshmukh.
