For the first time in several years, the Karnataka Government will hold a special cabinet meeting in Kalaburagi on Tuesday to discuss issues specific to Kalyana Karnataka, the state’s most backward region.
The meeting was announced two weeks ago, when the cabinet convened in Bengaluru.
Speaking to reporters in Kalaburagi on Monday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that though the people of the region have several aspirations, the cabinet meeting would finalise its decisions to implement some announcements made in the 2024-25 budget.
“(Generating) employment is also an issue that will be discussed and is among the subjects in the agenda,” he said.
Among the other issues to be discussed is a separate secretariat and industrial policy for the Kalyana Karnataka (erstwhile Hyderabad Karnataka) region, under which falls Kalaburagi district.
“We will finalise whatever is possible tomorrow,” he said.
In the budget, Siddaramaiah set aside Rs 5,000 crore for the development of Kalyana Karnataka. The budget also proposed economic corridors between Bidar and Bengaluru, Rs 100 crore for tourism development at Anjanadri Hill in Koppal district and Rs 365 crore to address the drinking water supply issues of Kalaburagi city, among other initiatives.
Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge, who hails from Kalaburagi district, said the cabinet would also discuss a blueprint involving all departments for the overall development of the region.
