BJP Demands Probe: Jagan Mohan Reddy Under Fire Over ‘Animal Fat’ in Tirupati Laddus

The Allegations
During a recent press conference, Naidu asserted that the previous YSRCP government used animal fat instead of pure ghee in the preparation of the famous Tirupati laddus, which are offered as prasadam at the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple. He referenced a lab report from a Gujarat-based laboratory, NDDB CALF Ltd., which allegedly confirmed the presence of “beef tallow” and other animal fats in the ghee used for these laddus.Naidu stated, “The use of substandard ingredients in such a revered prasadam is unacceptable. We must ensure that only pure and high-quality ingredients are used.”
Response from YSR Congress Party
The YSRCP has vehemently denied Naidu’s claims, labeling them as politically motivated and an attempt to tarnish their image. Senior YSRCP leader YV Subba Reddy described Naidu’s allegations as “heinous” and accused him of exploiting religious sentiments for political gain.In response to these allegations, Jagan Mohan Reddy has moved to seek a judicial inquiry into the claims made by Naidu. His legal team has requested that either a sitting judge or a committee appointed by the High Court investigate the matter thoroughly.
Government’s Reaction
Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda has intervened in the controversy by seeking a comprehensive report on the issue from Naidu. He stated, “I spoke to Chandrababu Naidu today and asked him to send the entire report regarding this matter. Once we receive it, we will examine it and take suitable action.”Nadda emphasized that the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) would conduct an investigation into the allegations and determine if any regulatory actions are necessary.
The Importance of Tirupati Laddus
The Tirupati laddus are not just a culinary delight; they hold immense religious significance for millions of devotees who visit the Tirumala temple. The prasadam is considered sacred, and any suggestion of adulteration raises serious concerns about faith and integrity within religious practices.
Conclusion
As this controversy unfolds, it highlights the intersection of politics and religion in India. The BJP’s call for an investigation into the use of animal fat in Tirupati laddus has sparked intense debate and scrutiny over food purity in religious offerings. With both parties entrenched in their positions, it remains to be seen how this issue will be resolved and what impact it will have on public perception of both the BJP and YSRCP. As investigations proceed, transparency and accountability will be crucial to restoring faith among devotees in one of India’s most cherished traditions.
