
Six people onboard a capsized fishing boat near the mouth of the White Salmon River were pulled out of the water, but a seventh person remains missing.
HOOD RIVER, Ore — Multiple agencies are searching for a person after a boat capsized Wednesday afternoon on the Columbia River.
According to the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office, around 11:39 a.m., a call reported an overturned boat near the mouth of the White Salmon River. Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies responded.
When they got there 15 minutes later, six people onboard the capsized fishing boat had been pulled out of the water and were onshore. Two of those people were transported to a hospital.
On Wednesday a fishing guide boat capsized with seven people on board, six were pulled from the water, but the captain of the ship is missing.
However, a seventh person has not been located, the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office said.
The boat, a 24-feet North River fishing boat was last seen in the area of the green navigation buoy near the White Salmon inlet.
The Hood River County Sheriff’s Office, Columbia River Intertribal Fisheries Officers, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office and some civilian boats helped with the initial search, along with a Hood River County Sheriff’s Office plane and a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter from the Astoria Station.
More resources will assist on the search, which will continue Thursday.
